Temperature – March 2010

Monthly mean maximum temperatures ranged between 23°C over the mountainous areas in the west and south to above 33°C over the northern interior. 

Monthly mean minimum temperatures ranged between 12°C and 18°C over most of the province while lower temperatures occurred over the mountainous areas.


Temperature – March 2010 compared to March 2009

Mean monthly maximum temperatures for this year were generally lower than last year, especially between Swellendam, Laingsburg and Touwsriver. 

Mean monthly minimum temperatures for this year were generally lower than last year in the western side of the province, while the Overberg and eastern areas was more or less similar to last year’s figures. 


Temperature – March 2010 compared with long-term

Large areas in the West Coast, Central Karoo and Eden experienced above normal maximum temperatures March 2010. The Cape Winelands and Overberg indicated less than average maximum temperatures.

Monthly average minimum temperatures were lower than normal in the Worcester-Ceres and Murraysburg regions, average over most parts of the province.  The Overberg DM, Cape Town Metropole-Wellington and Merweville-Prince Albert regions revealed above normal minimum temperatures.
