Temperature – May 2008
Minimum temperatures in May 2009 ranged between 5°C and 12°C with the lowest temperatures over the Karoo and the highest temperatures along the coast due to the moderating effect of the ocean.
Monthly mean maximum temperatures ranged between 14°C over the mountainous areas and 25°C over parts of the Karoo.
Temperature – May 2009 compared to May 2008
Mean monthly minimum temperatures were generally lower than during May 2008, especially over the western parts of the province.
Mean monthly maximum temperatures in May this year were lower than in May 2008 over especially the southern parts.
Temperature – May 2009 compared with long-term
Average minimum temperatures were higher than the long-term mean over the southwestern parts of the province and near normal over most of the interior.
Monthly maximum temperatures were above normal over the southern and eastern parts of the province and below average over some parts of the Boland and West Coast districts.
