Heat units – October 2008 to January 2009 compared with long-term Accumulated heat units for the current period were near normal in the east and the north west of the province. Above normal accumulated heat units was recorded over the southern parts of the West Coast, Cape Town Metropole, Overberg and adjacent areas of the Cape Winelands. The northern areas of the Cape Winelands received below normal accumulated heat units.

Heat units for January 2009 over the Western Cape ranged between 200 and 600 GDD.

Cumulative heat units for October to January 2009 were mostly between 500 GDD and 1500 GDD.
