Temperature – January 2007

Minimum temperatures in January 2007 for most areas in the Western Cape ranged between 12°C and 18°C, with the exception of the high-lying areas which recorded temperatures from 9°C to 12°C.

Mean maximum temperatures for the coastal areas of the Western Cape for January 2007 ranged mostly from 27°C to 33°C, while the interior parts recorded relatively higher temperatures of between 30°C and 36°C.

Temperature – January 2007 compared to January 2006

Even though there are localities especially over the Central Karoo with minimum temperatures lower than those in January 2006, generally, minimum temperatures for January 2007 for Western Cape were more or less similar to the previous year with the deviations between -1°C and 1°C.

Most places recorded maximum temperatures warmer than during January 2006 with deviations between 1°C and 5°C. By contrast, cooler temperatures were experienced over the Boland district.

Temperature – January 2007 compared with long-term

Minimum temperatures during January 2007 were near normal over the Central Karoo, northern West Coast and some parts of the Eden district. By contrast, above normal minimum temperatures were recorded over the Overberg, Cape Town and most parts of the Boland district.

Maximum temperatures during January 2007 were above normal over the entire province, with very few exceptions of near normal temperatures.
