Heat units for December 2005

Heat units – December 2005 Most parts over the province recorded heat units between 200 and 400 GDD. Areas in the vicinity of the mountains recorded heat units of less than 200 GDD.

Cumulative heat units (1 October to 31 December 2005) ranged from 500GDD to 1000GDD for almost the entire province. There are a few exceptions in the high-lying areas where accumulated heat units of below 500GDD were recorded and in some places over the Central Karoo and Boland district cumulative heat units in the excess of 1000GDD were recorded

Heat units – October to December 2005 compared with October to December 2004 and the long term.

Most parts of the Western Cape accumulated less heat units as compared to the same period in the previous season. This is shown by the percentage departure in the range of -10% to -30%. The central Boland is the only area in which cumulative heat units from October to December 2005 were more or less similar in magnitude as compared to the previous year with the percentage deviation ranging from -5% to 5%.

Comparing October to December 2005 with the long-term average season, cumulative heat units up to December were mostly below normal except for some areas in the Boland.
