TRD: Institute for animal production: WHAT WE DO

Although the main task of the Institute for Animal Production is research, researchers are often involved with extension, especially by providing expert advice to other scientists, farmers and extension staff.

The laboratories associated with Animal Production assist farmers and related industries by providing the essential service of performing the laboratory analysis of samples.

Trials are run continuously, but it is noteworthy that a primary function of scientists is to keep up to date with developments in their fields of expertise throughout the world, to filter this information for local application, and to pass these findings on to producers, along with findings made from their own trials.

To this end, a thorough knowledge and understanding of local conditions is required and close cooperation with farmers and their associated institutions must be maintained in order to determine needs and problems which can be prioritised for future research programmes.
