Technology, Research and Development: INSTITUTE FOR ANIMAL PRODUCTION

The Institute for Animal Production comprise scientists, technicians and laboratory staff, as well as supporting personnel.

Our primary responsibility it is to research the feeding, breeding and management of domestic livestock in the Western Cape, with the ultimate objective of assisting both small-scale and commercial farmers to improve financial returns from livestock production and to provide food for the nation.

Included amongst our current research programmes, are investigations with dairy cattle, sheep, ostriches, pigs and aquaculture.

Current projects
The South African Woolgrower's Association, in association with various roleplayers including the Department of Agriculture: Western Cape, has launched an initiative to reduce the impact of woolgrowing on the environment.
