The Western Cape Department of Agriculture is responsible for regulating and enforcing the following laws amongst others:


Meat Safety Act (Act 40 of 2000)

Our Veterinary Health Services devision is responsible for the administration of the Meat Safety Act (Act 40 of 2000). The aim of the Act is to promote meat safety by maintaining essential standards at abattoirs.

Animal Diseases Act (Act 35 of 1984 )

Our Veterinary Health Services devision is also responsible for the administration of the Animal Diseases Act (Act 35 of 1984). The Act aims to provide for the control of animal diseases and parasites, and to promote animal health.

Conservation of Agricultural Resources Act (Act 43 of 1983)

On of the main functions of our Resource Conservation devision is to ensure that the Conservation of Agricultural Resources Act (Act 43 of 1983) is executed.
