About farm management and enterprise budgets

by Lize Ferreira

Farm management comprises all the processes that are concerned with the management of the production factors of a farm business, namely land, labour, and capital, in order to attain certain objectives.

The Directorate: Agricultural Economics concentrates mainly on capital as a production factor. Various computer programs and models are used to draft enterprise budgets for a variety of enterprises.

Enterprise budgets are a very handy tool when planning a new enterprise or determining the profitability of an existing enterprise.

We can either use a standard enterprise budget as a template for a specific farm business, or we can design a new enterprise budget that takes your unique circumstances into consideration.
