As part of the promotion of skills development in the agricultural sector, the Department of Agriculture: Western Cape, in co-operation with SAWIT, is sending a group of oenology learnerships students to France to obtain international exposure to the wine industry. The next group of candidates will visit France during September and October this year.

At a recent orientation day, the students and their employers were introduced to the curriculum for the formal training these learners will receive.

The students will undergo 4 weeks of learnership training at the Vineyard Academy prior to leaving for France in September. During the five weeks in Beaune, France, the exchange candidates will help with Fench harvest on various farms and will be required to attend formal lectures at the CFPPA (Centre de Formation Professionnelle et de Promotion Agricole). The formal lectures at the CFPPA will focus on the French Appelation system, growing the French vine cultivars, relevant pest and disease control, viticultural techniques, French wine processing techniques and more.

The candidates will receive their NQF 2 certificates at the end of the programme.
