AIM
The Higher Certificate programme (HC) is developed to accommodate students who normally cannot qualify for the B.Agric. course. This could be as result of lower achievements than the required 50% aggregate for Matric, or as result of the lack of the necessary subject(s) required for B.Agric. degree selection.
CURRICULUM
The curriculum makes provision (during the first semester of the first year) for subjects regarded as generic and essential for agricultural students. Thereafter two selection options are available, i.e. courses A and B.

Students who are unsuccessful in three or more subjects at the end of the first semester of the first study year, must follow a compulsory extended academic programme. The extended programme requires that students repeat the subjects which they failed during the second semester of the first year. The second semester subjects of the first year are then spread over the two semesters of the following year (second year of study) for completion. The first study year is therefore presented over two years to give these students the opportunity to integrate fully academically and become successful.
*Components of Agricultural Engineering applicable to specific production subject areas, are presented in the relevant subjects and not in the subject Agricultural Engineering. The components that are presented over a period of three semesters are the following: Irrigation (year 1, semester 2); Tractor Mechanics (year 2, semester 1); Agricultural Structures and Mechanisation (year 2, semester 2).
*Two compulsory short courses that have to be attended and passed by the students are: Soil Classification and Welding. These will be presented during vacations.
